Fumee Natural Lake Area

Location: Iron Mountain (Dickinson County)

Terrain: Dirt, mostly flat

Trail Rating: Moderate

Manure: Scatter in woods off the trail, remove from day staging locations

Approximately 17 miles of trails that are 12' wide! Between two lakes, by a bench is a 3-mile snowmobile trail that is flat and perfect for cantering!

Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed!

did you know...

  • Fumee Lake Natural Area consists of 1,800 acres of protected land.

  • Trails are open to non-motorized users, all dogs must be leashed.

  • Main trail loop around Big Fumee Lake is 4.45 miles.

  • Trail loop around Little Fumee Lake is 1.55 miles.

  • Between the 2 lakes, by a bench there is a small hidden trail to the big lake with sandy beach access for you to enjoy. There is a 3-mile snowmobile trail, that is flat and about 10' wide, perfect for cantering! You do not have to remove manure from this trail.

  • Single-track technical trails are found on each side of the lakes. The Northern Mountain loop is 4.4 miles, where you climb up and down the side of a mountain, and weave between trees. The Southern Ridge loop is 2.8 miles, with an overlook of Quinnesec, stream and bridge are on this path.

  • If the ground is soft enough to leave marks, please refrain from using trails until ground is solid.

  • Do NOT ride groomed ski trails
